Our Story

The Evolution of RFG Advisory

An Advisor-Centered Beginning

RFG Advisory’s story began in 2003 when Bobby White, an Advisor himself, founded Reliance Financial Group. From day one, Bobby built the company with a commitment to truly understanding Advisors and their clients. Serving the mass affluent market with investable assets from $100k to $3 million, the firm quickly gained traction, growing assets under management to $1.2 billion over 13 years. This early success was a testament to our strong foundation rooted in a service-first mentality.

The Vision for RFG 2.0

In 2015, Shannon Spotswood joined Reliance Financial Group, partnering with Bobby to drive a new era—one that would focus entirely on empowering Independent Advisors.

Together, they launched RFG Advisory with a singular mission: to build a platform that Advisors could rely on for support, innovation, and growth.

In 2018, Rick Wedell joined, enhancing RFG’s ability to deliver institutional-grade investment services on a modern, dynamic platform. This fully supported model redefined independence for Advisors, equipping them with the infrastructure to compete and succeed.

The RIA of the Future

With LongRidge Capital becoming the majority owner in 2023, RFG gained vital resources and expertise to drive platform innovation and strategic leadership, marking a key milestone toward its goal of becoming the RIA of the Future. In 2025, RFG reinforced this commitment by welcoming Ed Swenson as President and introducing StrongHer Money®, a groundbreaking growth accelerator supporting Advisors in serving women investors.
