The Story of RFG Advisory

Bobby White founds Reliance Financial Group.

Originally a part of Securities America, Bobby and his partner envision their firm becoming independent – laying the foundation for what will become RFG Advisory.

Reliance Financial joins LPL Financial and soon becomes an Office of Supervisory Jurisdiction (OSJ)

Empowering the firm to supervise other Advisors under the LPL umbrella.

The firm grows from $400M to $1.2B AUM

through organic growth and a succession acquisitions – marking a serious gear shift for the business’s future.

Shannon Spotwood joins
the firm as President

After spending decades in institutional investing. Shannon and Bobby plan to create a platform for Independent Advisors beyond what LPL Financial can provide – officially forming RFG Advisory.

Rick Wedell joins the firm as Chief Investment Officer.

His investment acumen launches Bluemonte, an institutional-grade investment solution, allowing RFG to truly offer a fully supported business model for Independent Advisors.
With a clear focus on delivering a superior client experience, a fully integrated technology platform, data that the Advisor owns, and unparalleled growth support for Independent Advisors, Shannon, Rick, and Bobby embark on their mission of helping more Advisors build their own business in a better way.
RFG 2.0 officially launches as a client experience company 1st, a technology company 2nd and a hybrid RIA 3rd. The firm successfully completes a broker dealer change to become multi-custodial and predominately focused on managing Advisory assets.
Within 24 hours of the world shutting down due to COVID-19, RFG and it’s Advisors were up and running working remotely to serve clients. We like to say we didn’t plan for a global pandemic, but we did plan for the future. ​The firm’s AUM growth starts to accelerates into the back half of 2020 as future-focused Advisors join the platform to build their business. ​

Long Ridge Capital becomes the majority owner of RFG Advisory and invests in its rapid evolution.

The capital raised through this growth partnership allows RFG to invest in the talent and technology required to serve Advisors who will shape the future of our profession. It also enables RFG to offer equity participation to our Advisors through our Growth Alignment Program.
The RFG executive team is rounded out by a series of high-profile hires. Abby Salameh (Chief Growth Officer), Brendan Fraizer (Chief Behavioral Officer), and Ken Kim (Chief Financial Officer & Head of Corporate Development) all join the firm. In the same year, Shannon Spotwood becomes CEO – and the firm officially passes $5.5 billion in AUM
