“I Was On An Island.”
Throughout her career as a Financial Advisor, Marcia Miller has always been independent.
“I worked with four different firms before I found RFG Advisory,” Marcia says. With those other firms, Marcia didn’t feel like she had the support she needed. “I felt like I was on an island,” she says. Marcia sought a partner that could support her with marketing, technology, and overall operations. “I didn’t have that at the firm I was with.”
Starting With “Yes.”
Marcia found RFG and immediately fell in love with the firm’s culture. Right away, she realized RFG could provide the support she craved. “When I came to RFG, I was really blown away,” Marcia says. “Everything speaks to each other. It’s just easy access—they’ve thought everything through thoroughly.”
Since she joined RFG, Marcia has entered a new niche: serving veterinarians. As she navigated this new space, Marcia called upon RFG to assist with marketing and creative support. “I’ve received so much support and outside-the-box thinking,” Marcia says. “I even got a text on a Saturday from someone on the marketing team who was out shopping and had found something I could use for an upcoming conference.”
That level of service and care wasn’t something Marcia felt she had with her prior firms. “I didn’t have that kind of support ever,” she says. “‘We can’t do that’ was always the answer when I asked a question. With RFG, it’s, ‘How can we make that happen?’”
RFG has assisted Marcia in developing her business and marketing strategies, preparing for conferences, and launching her veterinarian-focused podcast. “The podcast company I was working with specializes in working with Financial Advisors,” Marcia explains. “The names they were coming up with just didn’t sound like me. I immediately called RFG and got with the marketing team, and they came up with the name Making Hay. It resonated, and it’s the name we’re using today.”
Part of The Family
Whether she requires assistance with marketing or anything else, Marcia knows she can call RFG when she’s in need. “I feel like I’m part of the RFG family,” she says. “If I have a problem, I do not hesitate one second to pick up the phone or send a quick message or email—even to the CEO of the company.”
To Marcia, that personal touch matters. She notes that RFG CEO Shannon Spotswood recently called her to discuss some personnel matters, and that attention made Marcia feel that familial connection even more deeply. “At my previous firm, I saw the CEO one time in two and a half years and never got a phone call from him,” she says. “I do feel like I matter and like I’m an important piece of this company—and it feels really good.”
An added benefit of partnering with RFG is gaining access to the other like-minded Advisors. “People who are attracted to RFG are people who want to grow their business,” says Marcia. “If you want to sit on the sidelines and coast into retirement, this is probably not the place for you.” Marcia gained further insights and perspectives from her peers at RFG’s Annual Growth Conference. “I have thinking partners everywhere I turn instead of having to figure it all out myself,” she says.
“Now, I’m The Quarterback.”
To Marcia, RFG’s ability to lift that burden of needing to do everything alone has been game changing. “When I came here, I was exhausted,” she says. “I felt like the weight of the world was on my back. Now I feel like I’m the quarterback, and I have all these people around me helping me play the game better.”
In the two years she’s been a part of RFG, Marcia’s business has grown 30-40%—even though she entered a new niche and started from scratch. “I’m barely touching the tip of the iceberg of where I’m going,” says Marcia. “I’m super optimistic about where my business is headed.”
Marcia’s approach to growing her business in a new industry has changed since her early years as a Financial Advisor, primarily due to the support she receives from RFG. “I don’t think I could have handled the growth journey by myself,” Marcia says, citing the funds she would have needed to invest in various marketing companies for marketing ideas and content. RFG’s support has come from an organic place because Marcia’s success is RFG’s success.
“I know RFG has a vested interest in my growth,” she says. “They want me to be all I can be, and I feel that every time I talk to them. RFG wants to do nothing but support me and cheer me on when I hit it out of the ballpark.”
