Two Birmingham executives named to Bizwomen’s ‘Women to Watch’ list

Two Birmingham businesswomen are among the 100 business leaders throughout the nation who were named to Bizwomen’s Women to Watch list for 2016.

Two Birmingham executives named among nation’s top 100 Women to Watch

Shelia Montgomery-Mills, senior manager with Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, and Shannon Spotswood, president of RFG Advisory, were named to the “Bizwomen’s Women to Watch” list. Both were also named to our Women to Watch earlier this year.

American City Business Journals named 100 women from across the country to the list based on reporting from the 43 sister publications nationwide. However, the 100 were determined after looking at a field of more than 1,000 women and plenty of research and deliberation.

Montgomery-Mills remembered the BBJ’s Women’s Summit and how during a panel discussion fellow award winner Tyrenda Williams-Reed discussed visiting Montgomery-Mills’ home and seeing Birmingham had mentors, room for growth was a catalyst for her staying in town.

“It was so wonderful to learn how just a little of my time, a conversation and an invite into my loft several years ago, was one of the reasons she chose to stay in Birmingham,” Montgomery-Mills said. “To be selected along with Shannon to the top 100 and see what each has done, is truly humbling as well as energizing. We must continue to lift each other up and be inspiring role models to those coming along after us.”

Spotswood was pleased to hear of the honor and hopes to keep momentum going into the future.

“2016 has borne witness to growth and change management at RFG and as I reflect back I keep returning to one of my favorite quotes – ‘Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will,'” she said. “I am honored to be included amongst such a talented group of women and my 2017 wish for all of us to continue the relentless pursuit of our

dreams for our company, our family and ourselves.”
